Federal Flood Insurance Program Extended Until Nov. 18th.
After passing legislation that extended the program for only 5 days last week, Congress passed a similar band-aid solution – this time lasting for 6 weeks.
While the National Flood Insurance Program has run at a loss for 20 consecutive years and racked up a debt of over $18 billion, has come within days of shut down 6 times in the past 2 years, and provides coverage that in many cases is not suitable for homes in the Northeast, Congress appears not to have the will or ability to achieve a long-term reform/solution.
Perhaps it’s time for an alternative at the state level or to introduce competition from the private sector.
