Intentional Flooding. Is it insured?
Along the swollen Mississippi River the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has intentionally blown a hole in 2 levees and is anticipating doing the same to more, knowingly resulting in damage to farmland and farm buildings being flooded. These properties have been in a designated “spillway” for decades.
Does insurance cover this?
Farm-owners should be able to recover damages from the government, but that might take months or years. Crop insurance will cover damages to the crops. How flood insurance or farm-owners insurance will respond to this is in question.
